Amazing hook beyond razor sharp and hooks fish well but one minor flaw is that they are weak for the bigger stuff lost a 30 pounder to the hook bending open.i
I caught a 20 and the hook snapped into when I touched with my pliers. Amazing hooks overall

For 30 years running I’ve fished Great Lakes steelhead, mainly from Lake Superior tributaries so they top out around 30″ and 10lbs give or take. They are notoriously hard to land with their speed and acrobatics, I would say only 50% of the fish I’ve hooked. I’ve used several different models of short beak point hooks from Eagle Claw, Gamakatsu, Mustad and Owner. Probably a dozen or more varieties and all with the same disappointment. I even resorted to straightening the points and getting them sticky sharp for instant hook ups, which did not seem to help. I was about to write off beak point hooks entirely but decided to try some from Raven this year. The Specialist had the right wire diameter to hold these fish and I landed every single fish I got a hook in except for the biggest one which I couldn’t keep up with and control. The hook was buried somewhere deep in the wood it dove into so I had to break the line. I did not have a single hook bend open on hard pulling fish with 12lb line. With all their thrashing, jumping and cartwheels they did not throw a single hook. I’m not one to give instant credit without a good test for several seasons but I’m dumbfounded with the results. This became my most successful year ever. I’m looking forward to putting the Specialists to good use and will try them in different sizes. Even my fishing partner with 50 to 60 years of annual steelhead fishing was impressed. It appears the Specialist will be a staple in our box going forward. Kudos on this hook, it seems to be a winner!
